TWO GRADUATE STUDENT POSITIONS (MASTERS) IN APPLIED RANGE ECOLOGY * DEPT OF NATURAL RESOURCE SCIENCES * THOMPSON RIVERS UNIVERSITY Two - 2 year funded graduate student positions are available in the Masters of Environmental Science program at TRU (Kamloops, BC, Canada). The overarching project is based on evaluating the Grazing Response Index (GRI), a monitoring/management tool, specifically designed to facilitate planning of grazing management under fluctuating climatic, and therefore growing, conditions. One Masters project will have a strong field focus and evaluate the GRI against plant responses in a number of commonly grazed native plant communities in southern interior of BC (for example lower, middle and upper grasslands) over two growing seasons. The other Masters project will have more of a modelling focus and use pre-existing and new data to evaluate the GRI against long-term trends in range condition across native grassland plant community types found in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and BC. Please view the site http://www.tru.ca/science/msces.html for information on the Masters of Environmental Science program at TRU.For a more detailed overview of this research or for additional information please contact Dr. Wendy Gardner (wgardner@tru.ca ) and Lavona Liggins (lavona.liggins@agr.gc.ca). To apply please email the above individuals with your CV, a brief statement of your research interests and an unofficial copy of your undergraduate transcript. Applicants need to apply by August 6, 2010 and be prepared to start courses in Kamloops in September 2010. Acceptance is conditional on the candidate being accepted into the TRU Masters of Environmental Science program. |
