Event Description:
Join us for an insightful session on Old Growth and Forest Biodiversity within British Columbia’s Cumulative Effects Framework (CEF). This presentation will explore the importance of assessing cumulative effects on forest ecosystems, particularly old growth values and overall biodiversity.
Participants will gain an understanding of:
- The historical and current management of old growth and forest biodiversity in BC
- How these values are assessed and reported through the CEF
- Available data and tools to support land-use planning and resource decision-making
- This session is ideal for professionals working in forestry, ecology, land-use planning, and natural resource management who want to integrate forest biodiversity and old growth considerations into their work.
Presenters:
Darcie Fodor, RPF, MSFM – As an Old Growth Assessment Coordinator and Policy Analyst, Darcie supports the development of CEF reports and decision-support tools. She brings extensive experience in land use planning, forest restoration, and ecosystem analysis throughout BC.
Doug Lewis, RPF – A Landscape Ecologist with 25 years of experience in forest planning, Doug is the Forest Biodiversity Value Lead with the CEF. He specializes in evaluating the effects of forest harvesting and disturbances across the province.
Traci Van Spengen, P.Ag. – A Professional Agrologist for 26 years, Traci serves as the Provincial Old Growth Value Lead with the CEF Team and as an Old Growth and Biodiversity Specialist with the Omineca Ecosystem Team. She provides subject matter expertise in biodiversity guidance, old growth condition reporting, and field analysis.
