IS THE PUBLIC REPRESENTED ON THE BCIA BOARD? >
Yes. The Professional Governance Act prescribes that the governing Board of regulatory bodies shall have four public representatives (Lay Board members) appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council through the Crown Agency and Board Resourcing Office. Public representatives are also required for Committees and are appointed by the Board.
HOW IS THE PUBLIC PROTECTED? >
BCIA ensures that a registrant practicing agrology in British Columbia has the necessary knowledge and skills. No one can call themselves an Agrologist without registration in the Institute. In addition, anyone carrying out work that is defined in the reserved practice section of the Agrologists Regulation must be registered with the Institute as a Professional Agrologist (PAg), Technical Agrologist (TAg) or Limited License Agrologist (LLAg). The Institute addresses registrants' behaviour, skills and knowledge through a complaint-driven process and random practice audits.
WHAT IF I NEED TO REPORT THE CONDUCT OF A BCIA REGISTRANT? >
If you believe a BCIA registrant - or a registrant of any other regulator under the Professional Governance Act - has contravened the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, you should submit a complaint to the Institute. Please read details regarding Complaints and Discipline.
