The Coho Have Returned!

We are thrilled to invite you to join us for an exciting and educational event as the Coho salmon return to our local streams! This is your opportunity to learn about the incredible work of the Port Moody Ecological Society in supporting the preservation and growth of local fish populations.

The Port Moody Ecological Society is a 100% volunteer-based organization dedicated to operating a salmon hatchery and water quality laboratory on Tseil-Waututh land in the heart of the City of Port Moody. The team works hard year-round to spawn wild salmon, raising Coho and Chum from eggs to fingerlings (young fish) before releasing them each May at their popular Fingerling Festival. After a remarkable four-year journey in the Pacific Ocean, these salmon return to their home streams to continue the life cycle and spawn.

During this event, you’ll get an up-close look at the role this incredible organization plays in ensuring the health and future of our local ecosystems. Learn about the process of spawning, raising, and releasing salmon, as well as the broader impact this has on our environment. This is a wonderful chance for all BCIA members to witness local conservation efforts in action and to connect with fellow members who share an interest in sustainability and ecological stewardship.
